FOUR SEBANE MEMBER COMPANIES RECEIVE MASS TECHNOLOGY COLLABORATIVE GRANTS
Grants Will Enable New Solar Electric Installations

Boston, MA – May 28, 2003 ---- Four member companies of the Solar Energy Business
Association of New England (SEBANE) were among the recipients of the recent
Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC) new grants for Photovoltaic (PV) open
installation program from the state’s Renewable Energy Trust. The funds will enable 100
new solar electric installations across the state and help the recipients develop new and
renovated energy efficient buildings.

The SEBANE member companies were among the nine recipients of the 13 grants
awarded to install solar electric systems on nearly 100 buildings throughout the Commonwealth. These members include:

Alternate Energy Systems of Plymouth, MA – received $197,500
“The MTC grant will enable us to install 12 solar electric systems throughout
Plymouth, Bristol and Barnstable Counties to provide residents, municipalities
and businesses of Massachusetts with a choice of cleaner, safer source of energy,”
stated Steve Pitney, founder and operations manager of Alternate Energy Systems
that designs, constructs, and services renewable power projects. “These solar

(photovoltaic) systems will lower end-users’ electric consumption and reduce net
power grid demand. This is crucial during hot summer days when electricity
demand is highest. At the same time, these systems are in visible locations to
educate the general public about the potential of solar power.”

Berkshire PhotoVoltaic Systems of Adams, MA – received $107,764
“The grant funding helps ratepayers who earnestly want to contribute to clean
energy development by owning residential size PV systems. It also has a
multiplier effect economically in supporting manufacturing, warehousing and
service jobs in the Commonwealth,” stated Christopher Derby Kilfoyle, founder
and president of BPVS, an 18 year-old design and installation of stand-alone and
grid connected PV systems. “BPVS is proud to offer solar modules made by
RWE-Schott in Billerica. They combine rugged durability with an
environmentally sound manufacturing process. The MTC programs represent a
market development policy that optimizes protections for the consumer adoption
of PV and the New England utility grid’s adaptation to distributed solar electric
generation."

Conservation Services Group/Sun Power Electric, of Westborough – received
four grants totaling $336,480
“These grants to CSG and others demonstrate a solid, ongoing commitment to
make the state less dependent on fossil fuels and continue to position
Massachusetts as a technology leader in the country. We’re proud to be part of
this exciting effort.” Stated CSG CEO Stephen L. Cowell who explained that a
portion of the grants will be used for the “Sun Power for New Homes” program, a
recent initiative combining alternative energy and new construction with the
remainder to be used for the installation of PV panels on existing homes, schools,
churches and municipal buildings. Sun Power Electric is a division of CSG, a
non-profit energy conservation organization.

Under the Sun, of West Tisbury, MA – received $66,240
“The MTC grant allows Under the Sun to conduct solar demonstration projects on
public buildings -- from Gayhead Cliff to Steamship Authority Terminal -- where
otherwise there wouldn’t be enough financing,” stated Kate Warner, founder and
owner of Under the Sun providing design and consulting on solar electric [PV]
and solar hot water systems, energy conservation and efficiency strategies,
renewable energy outreach, education and advocacy.

MTC Awards – SEBANE 3-3-3
“This is a great link to the $50,000 outreach and education grant –that we
received from the US Department of Energy’s Million Solar Roof Program. That
grant provided funding over the course of this year for various energy activities.
Now, with the MTC grant, we can demonstrate the program to the communities.”
A total of $3.8 million has been awarded by the Renewable Energy Trust to help install
350 new solar systems during 2003-2004. These systems will generate clean, renewable
power during peak periods on buildings where the power is most needed. With annual
solar industry sales across Massachusetts reaching $43 million, 78% of the business is
generated from exports.

About SEBANE
Solar Energy Business Association of New England (SEBANE) is an independent
business association of solar energy companies either based or doing business in New
England. Originally founded in 1997 as the New England chapter of the Solar Energy
Business Association, it was re-established as SEBANE in the fall of 2001. SEBANE’s
mission is to promote the use of solar energy and the development of the solar energy
industry throughout New England.
