GREEN-E CERTIFIES FIRST "GREEN TAG" PRODUCT AND PLANS NATIONAL PRESS CONFERENCE

San Francisco, CA (April )-- The Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) announced today that Sun Power Electric Corporation has become the first provider of tradable renewable energy certificates (TRCs) to receive Green-e certification of its product, and more TRC product certifications are expected shortly. Consumers in the New England region can purchase blocks of "ReGenSM," Sun Power Electric’s renewable energy certificate product with a independent assurance that their purchase of certified TRCs supports generation from high-quality newly developed New England renewable energy plants.

Green-e has received a number of applications from TRC providers seeking product certification, and the Program expects to make additional certification announcements in the coming weeks. On May 23rd Green-e will hold a national Press Conference at the National Press Club in Washington, DC to introduce the country to TRCs as a new, convenient way to support renewable energy and benefit the environment.

TRCs, also known as "green tags," are created when renewable energy is substituted for traditional power. TRCs represent the environmental benefits of renewable energy generation in the form of a marketable commodity. Renewable energy is sometimes more expensive than buying traditional power so TRCs are purchased in addition to the electricity that most consumers now use.

Sun Power Electric builds and operates solar power plants in the northeastern United States. Their green power product, ReGenSM, is currently the only way for consumers to support clean renewable electricity in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. ReGenSM is composed of a mix of 1% solar and 99% biogas resources, and each block of 2,000-kilowatt hours purchased represents the delivery of clean power into the New England Power Grid.

"Through the purchase of TRC products, consumers help reduce our nation’s dependence on fossil fuels to produce electricity, and contribute to the reduction of harmful air pollutants," said Gabe Petlin, Green-e Program Manager. "When TRC products are Green-e certified, consumers can be confident they are receiving the environmental benefits of green power as well as helping to grow the supply of clean renewable energy."

Since 1997, Green-e has served as a nationally recognized tool to help consumers identify environmentally superior renewable energy offerings. To earn Green-e certification, TRCs must originate from 100% newly built renewable facilities that generate energy from the sun, the wind, the heat of the Earth, low-impact hydropower, biogas, or biofuels. Certified TRC providers also agree to abide by the Green-e Code of Conduct, and to submit marketing materials to CRS to meet Green-e disclosure and truth-in-advertising requirements. Sun Power Electric will undergo an annual verification audit to document that the company purchased enough quantity and type of renewable certificates to meet customer demand and marketing claims.
